Glass shelf racks and shelves, which have become increasingly popular in the past few years, are among the most expensive items on Amazon, according to a new report.
The Times of Indian, a state-owned news website, says it analyzed 10,000 shelves from Amazon and found that the price of these glass shelves rose to more than $5,000 from $300, a leap of nearly 20% in just two years.
The paper says the rise is the result of a government push to reduce steel consumption in the country.
The glass shelf brackets were once a relatively affordable item on Amazon.
The Times said the prices of these brackets increased about 15% from 2017 to 2018.
The article doesn’t say when or how Amazon started making glass shelf racks, but the company said in a statement that the products are made with recycled steel and are environmentally friendly.
The new report comes a day after the US State Department released a report detailing a growing number of cases of plastic bags floating on the Atlantic Ocean.
